Black Walnut Dye

My neighbor gave me some Black Walnuts for my latest project. I spun up 1264 yards of Mohair from my Angora Goat "Michael".
Then I put the old nasty looking walnuts that had been in a plastic bag waiting for me to finish spinning, in a pot. I boiled them for about an hour. Then I let it cool before straining out the nasties. I added the yarn and slowly brought it up to a simmer. I left it on for an hour. Then I turned of the heat and let it cool in the pot overnight. In the morning I had beautiful dark chocolate yarn!
I plan to make a vest out of it with a celtic cable running along the front edge and the neck.... wish me luck! I'm sort of creating the pattern from several patterns combined.

My latest weaving project

This is my 2nd weaving project. I used a polyester yarn that someone gave me to practice with. I think I may have woven it a bit to tight, but it's not bad. I wanted to play with color planning so it did it's job. And I can get some use out of it until I make one with "real"yarn!

Mohair and Angora Yarn

Here is my latest yarn! It's made with the last of Marley's fiber, dyed red. It was supposed to be a much lighter salmon color... Anyway since it came out so red I wanted to tone it down a bit. So I added some Angora from my rabbit Aaron. I dyed some yellow and left some white and blended it lightly w/ the Mohair. It's 60% Mohair 40% Angora so as you can imagine - it's SOFT! I let it spin up chunky funky and I think it came out great. I plan to Make a vest out of a Mohair/Rambouillet and trim it w/ this. I just have to get the vest yarn spun!
